How much power do I need to run my LEDs? This is a very important question. LEDs come in all shapes and sizes. They also come in all voltages and wattages (power consumption). A handy way of ensuring you have enough power to run your LEDs without damaging the power supply or your LEDs is to use this formula.
P = VI .
P is the power in watts
V is the voltage in volts
I is the current in amps.
For example if you have a 12W 12V light than the current draw for this light will be 1A. 12=12x1.
A good rule of thumb is to ensure that you only use 80% capacity of your power supply. this will ensure that the power supply is never overloaded. Therefore to supply the 12W light above, a 15W power supply would be needed. EG 15 x 0.8 = 12
